As a policy, iDocs instructional designers do not copy announcements when we copy your courses from term to term. We’ve found that this often leads to confusion for the students when the instructor’s picture doesn’t appear with the announcements (when announcements are copied, the profile picture is replaced with a default image). Copying announcements often also causes confusion for the instructors if they do not fully postdate all of the announcements. Instead, we recommend instructors save their announcements in a Word document, and then copy and paste the text into announcements as needed.
Although this works great for most announcements, some would benefit from another approach. If you use announcements that have
- many links
- images
- videos
you may benefit from saving your announcements in an unpublished page in Canvas. Images and embedded videos will be copied over when they course is copied, and course links will be updated.
To use these announcements, copy and paste from the page into an announcement as needed.
If this sounds helpful, ask your instructional designer to set up an unpublished page for you to save your announcements.
