Quick Tip: Tech Troubles Got You Down?

September 13, 2017 by Katie Venit Leave a Comment

Technology is a wonderful tool, but it doesn’t always work as expected. If you’re encountering problems with your online course, here are three troubleshooting tips you can try.

Make Sure Your Internet is Working

This is, of course, the first thing you should try. Go to another website. Does it load?

Conduct a speed test of your Internet connection. If the connection is very slow, that may cause some pages to load slowly.

Use a Different Browser

Not all browsers work as expected. In particular, we often encounter issues when working with Internet Explorer and Edge. Try switching to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to see if that fixes the problem.

Clear Your Cache

If the above two tips don’t solve your problem, try clearing your cache. You may have picked something up along the way that is interfering with the LMS. Consult the DoIT Help Desk for instructions on how to clear your cache in various browsers. Start by simply clearing the cache first. If that doesn’t work, move on to deleting cookies and other data containing login information.

I received my B.A. in English with a minor in Journalism from Wake Forest University and an M.A. in Religious Studies from Indiana University Bloomington. I see the role of an instructional designer as one that removes barriers to learning online content. Those barriers might be ones of accessibility, clarity, motivation, or something else that we discover as the online education continues to be refined. My job is to collaborate with instructors to make their content shine.
